The temporary transformation of an abandoned space underneath Brixton Station passageway into a temporary platform for local artists and entrepreneurs. This project aimed to explore questions of ‘value’ in urban markets today: how are our markets socially, culturally, politically and environmentally valuable in our increasingly valorized cities?
We staged events such as ‘The Food Journey’ workshop with Mama D of Community Centred Knowledge, and a launch event for local food groups Dapaah Group, a Ghanaian vegan chocolate company, and Samosa Shack, Pakistani samosa company. The space adapted with each event, from adjustable hanging tables to a 'night-mode'.
On invitation from the Brixton Design Trail, we took over the passageway for three weeks, initially collaborating with local designer Carolyne Hill, founder of Brixton Chill Create, and Brixton-based artist Farouk Agoro. With a team of young volunteers and a non-existent budget, the collective erected the space in a week.
